Dynamic Pricing
Dynamic Pricing (Settings > Entities > Dynamic Pricing) is a matrix of percentage modifiers by customer type and quote value. It exists because Rochele converts far fewer large commercial and body corporate quotes than residential ones, and wanted a consistent, automatic way to sharpen pricing on bigger jobs (ROCH-1345). Management set the percentages; estimators see the result on the iPad.

What you see
Section titled “What you see”A table with one row per quote value band and one column per customer type:
- Rows: $0-$50k, $50k-$100k, $100k-$150k and so on in $50,000 steps up to $1m, then $1m-$2m.
- Columns: Residential, Commercial and Body Corporate.
- Cells: the percentage modifier for that combination. A negative number reduces the price (a discount); zero means no change.
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”Change a modifier
Section titled “Change a modifier”- Click into the cell and type the new percentage, for example -5.
- Click or tab out of the cell. The value saves at once and a confirmation appears. A blank cell is rejected with “The field is required”.
There are no rows or columns to add; the bands are fixed.
How it works behind the scenes
Section titled “How it works behind the scenes”Which cell applies
Section titled “Which cell applies”The quote’s type name decides the column: any type containing “Residential” uses Residential, “Commercial” uses Commercial and “Body Corporate” uses Body Corporate. Other types (for example Rochele Business) get no adjustment. The quote version’s subtotal decides the row.
On the iPad
Section titled “On the iPad”The iPad’s existing price adjustment slider is used to apply the modifier (see iPad App):
- When a quote qualifies, the slider is moved to the matrix value automatically and the version price is adjusted. A Set dynamic price control re-applies the matrix value; if the quote does not qualify the estimator sees “Quote version does not qualify for the standard discount”.
- The adjustment popup shows the percentage applied so the estimator knows what has been given (ROCH-1429).
- The estimator can move the slider between -20% and +20% in 0.5% steps, but any manual change requires a written reason. Returning to the matrix value needs no reason.
- A quote version can be marked to exclude dynamic pricing altogether.
Locking
Section titled “Locking”While a quote is still being prepared, the current matrix applies. Once the adjustment has been stored on the version (when it is sent), that version keeps its figure even if the matrix changes later, so accepted prices are stable (ROCH-1545). Creating a new quote version removes any discount; the estimator is warned and must apply pricing again (ROCH-1532).
Downstream
Section titled “Downstream”The adjusted total is what the customer accepts, and sub jobs are priced from it, so a discount flows through to tradesperson pay via the profession rate. See Professions and Scopes.
Tips and gotchas
Section titled “Tips and gotchas”- Enter discounts as negative numbers. A positive number increases the price.
- Changes are cached for up to an hour on the web side but the cache is cleared whenever you save a cell, so new quotes pick up the change straight away.
- Real Estate quote types do not contain the word “Residential” and so receive no automatic adjustment.
- The design intent (ROCH-1345) is that the proposal only calls out the adjustment to the customer when it is a discount, and stays silent for a zero or positive modifier. Check a sample proposal if you need to confirm the current wording.
