Professions
Professions (Settings > Entities > Professions) lists the trades Rochele engages: painters, plasterers, renderers, scaffolders, colour consultants and so on. Every scope template belongs to a profession, every tradesperson has a profession, and each profession carries a rate, the percentage of the quoted price that is paid to the tradesperson doing that work. Management and operations maintain this list.
What you see

The seeded professions and rates are: Painter 69, Plasterer 80, Sander 80, Renderer 80, Other 80% 80, Builder 80, Scaffolding 90, Texturer 80, Colour Consultant 100, Water-Proofer 90, Glazier 90, Concrete Remedial 90, Electrician 80, Metal Repairs 80, Other 100% 100 and Other 0% 0. Abseiling professions were added later. Live values may differ; check the screen.
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”Create a profession
Section titled “Create a profession”- Click Create new.
- Enter the Name and the Rate (a whole-number percentage).
- Click Create Profession.
Edit a profession
Section titled “Edit a profession”Click a row. A popup lets you change the name, rate and the colour used for the profession on boards and graphs. Save to apply. There is no delete on this screen.
How it works behind the scenes

Section titled “Sub jobs and pay”When a customer accepts a proposal, the quote’s line items are grouped by profession and one sub job is created per group. The sub job price is the group’s total (after Dynamic Pricing) multiplied by the profession rate. For example a painter group totalling $10,000 at a rate of 69 creates a painter sub job worth $6,900. The same calculation runs for accepted variations. Colour Consultant sub jobs are automatically assigned to the default colour consultant.
The rate is copied onto the sub job at the time it is created, so changing a rate here applies to quotes accepted from that point on and does not reprice existing sub jobs (ROCH-1054).
Assigning trades
Section titled “Assigning trades”On the Planning Board, if you assign a tradesperson whose profession differs from the sub job’s, the sub job’s rate and price are recalculated using that tradesperson’s profession rate.
Elsewhere
Section titled “Elsewhere”- The Painter profession has special handling: painter sub jobs drive the visit suggestions and start-date logic on the boards, and only painter items are affected by the iPad price adjustment slider.
- When a job is created, a sticky note is added for each profession involved so the office knows which trades to book (ROCH-182, ROCH-656).
- Jobs can be filtered by profession, and the dashboard includes a Jobs by Profession graph. See Metrics and Graphs.

Tips and gotchas
Section titled “Tips and gotchas”- The rate is a percentage, not a dollar figure. A rate of 100 pays the tradesperson the full quoted price; 0 means the work is priced to the customer but nothing is paid out through a sub job (used for items Rochele handles internally).
- Because a sub job is created per profession, splitting one trade into several professions creates several sub jobs and several sets of tradesperson invoices.
- Names appear in customer-facing job notes, so keep them plain.
