Scopes
Despite the menu label, Settings > Entities > Scopes opens All Scope Templates. A scope template is a priced line of work: it carries the rates estimators quote at, the unit it is measured in, the trade profession that will do it and the specifications that describe how it is done. Scope templates sit inside Sections, which sit inside Items. Operations and management maintain them.

How it works behind the scenes
Section titled “How it works behind the scenes”How the estimator picks scopes on the iPad
Section titled “How the estimator picks scopes on the iPad”The estimator does not pick scopes one by one. On the iPad they tap to add a scope block, type in Search Items and choose an Item Template. The app copies that template’s sections and, inside each section, every scope template as a line item. Each line item takes:
- the rate for the quote type: Residential Interior, Residential Exterior, Residential Interior & Exterior and the three Real Estate types use the Residential Rate; the three Body Corporate types use the Body Corporate Rate; everything else (Commercial, Rochele Business and any later types) uses the Commercial Rate;
- the unit of measure, which controls what the estimator enters (for example width and height for area-based units);
- the profession;
- a copy of every attached specification.
The estimator then edits quantities and can adjust prices per line. Because the values are copied, later changes to the template do not alter quotes already in progress. See Create Quote and iPad App.
What happens when the quote is accepted
Section titled “What happens when the quote is accepted”Line items are grouped by profession and one sub job is created per profession. Each sub job is priced at the profession’s percentage of its line items’ total (after any dynamic pricing), so the profession on a scope template directly affects what the tradesperson is paid. See Professions and Dynamic Pricing.
Where specifications go
Section titled “Where specifications go”Specifications copied onto the line items print in the Specifications section of the proposal, appear on the job card and work order, and carry the safety hazards that populate the Project Safety Plan and the SWMS. See Specifications and Safety Hazards.
Tips and gotchas
Section titled “Tips and gotchas”- Rates are stored to the cent but entered in dollars; a rate left blank is treated as zero for that quote type, so fill in all three.
- The column heading reads “Body comporate Rate” on the live screen; it is the body corporate rate.
- The iPad matches quote types to rates by their type number, so if a new quote type is added the developers need to map it, otherwise it falls back to the Commercial Rate.
- Colour consulting line items are matched by name (for example “Colour Consulting - Interior”), so do not rename those scopes without checking with the developers.
